Nonwovens / Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP): Application and Process Equipment Overview

K-Tron has been active in the nonwovens market for years, as one of the key suppliers for accurately feeding Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP), the essential component in baby diapers, personal hygiene products and incontinence products.

The demand for disposable diapers for infants, toddlers and even adults is increasing. So is the demand for the large variety of personal hygiene products manufactured by the nonwovens industry.

Feeders and pneumatic / vacuum conveyors play an important role in the production of disposable diapers and other hygiene products.

About Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP):

SAP consists of small gel-like beads that have all of the water removed. When water is re-introduced, the crystals absorb the water and grow into a gel.
It is a free-flowing, very hygroscopic polymer based bulk material with a typical particle range of 50-500µ.

Hygiene Products Production:

Production of these personal products is a continuous process, and one of the most critical tasks is the accurate, uniform and even distribution of SAP onto a fast moving band of cellulose or bicomponent fiber.

The short-term accuracy and uniformity of the SAP-feeding device are key to the quality of the end product.
